The participants have been chosen

18.11.2016     16 young journalists from Germany, Austria, Russia and Ukraine will participate  in the International Meeting "Close-up in Auschwitz 2017". They have been chosen from 120 applicants.

In Oswicim they will come together with two Auschwitz survivors: Dr Leon Weintraub (91) from Stockholm (Sweden) and Zakhar Tarasievich (82) from Grodno (Belarus).

02.11.2016     Maximilian-Kolbe-Werk would like to thank all who submitted an application to participate in our International Meeting "Close-up in Auschwitz 2017". We are very glad that our project has attracted such keen interest. We received around 120 applications from young journalists from Germany, Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Austria, Bulgaria and China. Unfortunately, we have a limited number of places available, and can only accommodate 16 candidates. All the applicants will be notified by November, 11, 2016 whether their application was successful or not.

02.09.2016     For the eighth time, Maximilian-Kolbe-Werk organises in 2017 an International Meeting for future journalists entitled "Close-up in Auschwitz 2017". The project will take place between 23 - 28 January 2017 in Oswiecim (Auschwitz), Poland.  

It targets 16 young people from Germany and other European countries aged between 18 and 28 who undertake journalistic training or study journalism.

About the project

Who can apply: Young people from Germany, Poland and other Central and Eastern European countries aged between 18 and 28, who currently undertake journalistic training or study journalism. The number of participants is limited to 16.

What we offer: Direct access to history by meeting survivors of the Nazi regime and visiting the Auschwitz Memorial

What we expect: Production and publication of different media pieces (minimum one peace per participant) that reach the wider public and can be used by Maximilian-Kolbe-Werk in its commemorative and educational programs

What we want: To build partnerships across national, linguistic, religious and cultural boundaries and to raise awareness of the current threats to basic democratic values, especially by right-wing extremism


Accommodation (in twin rooms): Center for Dialogue and Prayer Oswiecim, Poland (Centrum Dialogu i Modlitwy), ul. M. Kolbego 1, 32-602 Oswiecim, www.cdim.pl.

Participation fee is 90 euro. Further costs for accommodation, food and program will be covered by Maximilian-Kolbe-Werk.

Travel expenses shall be borne by the participants.

All the expenses (incl. participation fee and travel costs) of the participants from Ukraine, Belarus and Russia will be covered by Maximilian-Kolbe-Werk.

Working languages are German and English.
